Abraxas grossulariata
Irish status: Widespread
Magpie Moth - This moth really resembles a butterfly when day time flying between June and August. It overwinters as a caterpillar and emerges into this beautiful moth in the spring. Part of its diet is berries and currants so not too popular with keen gardeners. I came across this wonderful moth at Annagh Lake in Ballinaglera Co. Leitrim
