Selenia lunularia

Irish status: Scarce

Lunar Thorn - has a wingspan of 39-44 mm. The larva's main foodplants are Blackthorn, Dog-rose and Ash. It flies from May to late July and is attracted to light. It has deep scallops to the wing edges. The name comes from the small moon shaped mark on each wing. Photographed in Co. Leitrim flying in May.
