Orgyia antiqua

Irish status: Scarce

Vapourer - Up to now I have only observed the caterpillar of this scarce moth. The male moth has orange wings with an eye-spot on each wing. The female is just about wingless! I have yet to come across this moth, probably due to them being a mainly high flying day flyer. But the caterpillar is so striking I thought I would list it here! I will update this page when and if I come across the moth! Observed in Greaghnafarna Co. Leitrim.
