Zerynthia rumina
Spanish Festoon - An extremely attractive butterfly that flies from February to July in Portugal. I came across this specimen at a lake in Quarteira flying during March. It has around a 4.5 cm wingspan. Very similar to the Southern Festoon but has no blue on the wings. The red patches on the Spanish Festoon's forewings are also far brighter and more extensive in colour.
