Irish status: Common Immigrant

Silver Y - is a migratory moth which is named for the silvery Y-shaped mark on each of its forewings. It has a 30-35 mm wingspan. Widespread across Europe down to North Africa. In spring variable numbers migrate north reaching as far as Finland. They later succumb to frosts and die although some fly back again to the Mediterranean areas during our winter. Amazing! I photographed and filmed this one here in my garden in Ireland. Feeding on Ragged Robin. Day flying at the beginning of June.
