Colotois pennaria

Irish status: Widespread and Common

Feathered Thorn - This night flying moth flies from September to November. A fairly common moth mainly present in deciduous and mixed forests and large gardens. Colours can vary from a dull brown to a rusty red as this one. They are so called because of the long feathering along the antennas. This signifies the male. Taken at Greaghnafarna Co. Leitrim.
