Hydraecia micacea

Irish status: Widespread and Common

Rosy Rustic - Flies from August to October. These moths are found with a wide variation of colour and size but still easily recognised. I came across this moth on the banks of Annagh Lake at Greaghnafarna Co. Leitrim. Its binomial name means glittering near water. I can probably see why this is. As it flew past me it was easy to see as it flashed its yellow hind wings in flight. This moth can vary greatly in size and shade.
